What is a Discretionary Distribution?
A distribution from a trust made at the trustee’s discretion rather than being required by the trust terms.
A distribution of trust assets made at the discretion of the trustee, rather than according to a fixed schedule or predetermined amount. This type of distribution allows the trustee to consider the needs and circumstances of the beneficiaries when deciding how and when to distribute funds, providing flexibility in asset management. However, discretionary distributions must still align with the terms of the trust and fiduciary duties.
