What is a Durable Power of Attorney?

A legal document granting a person authority to act on another’s behalf in financial or medical matters, even after incapacitation.

A legal document that grants an appointed individual (the agent) the authority to make financial or healthcare decisions on behalf of another person (the principal) in the event that the principal becomes incapacitated. A durable power of attorney remains effective even if the principal is unable to make decisions, making it an important tool for estate planning and ensuring that the principal’s wishes are honored.
