What is an Estate Executor?

An individual appointed by a probate court who is responsible for managing and administering an estate and is named as executor in the decedent’s will.

The person designated in a will to manage the distribution of the deceased person’s estate. The executor is responsible for locating assets, paying debts and taxes, and distributing the remaining property to beneficiaries. Executors have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of the estate and its beneficiaries. They must follow legal procedures during the probate process and may need to provide an accounting of their actions to the court.
