Petition for Final Distribution

What is a Petition for Final Distribution?

A request filed with the probate court to approve the final distribution of the estate’s assets to the beneficiaries after debts, taxes, and other obligations have been settled.

A formal request to the court asking for approval to distribute the remaining assets of the estate to the beneficiaries, once all debts, taxes, and expenses have been settled. This petition is typically filed toward the end of the probate process, after all other matters have been resolved. The court will review the petition to ensure that everything has been handled properly before authorizing the final distribution of assets. Once approved, the executor or administrator is released from their duties.
