Q&A for Context
What experience does Lefton bring to RMO LLP?
Lefton has handled complex disputes involving fiduciary duties, conservatorships, financial elder abuse, and undue influence. She also gets brought into long-standing or stalled matters to help craft a litigation plan and push toward a settlement. Before opening her own practice, she worked in estate planning and as a licensed financial advisor, which gives her deep insights into the papers and money decisions that are often at the heart of private wealth disputes.
Lefton is also a certified mediator who helps families, beneficiaries, and fiduciaries resolve contested matters outside the courtroom. She regularly presents educational programs for attorneys, financial advisors, professional fiduciaries, and community organizations.
How does her background inform her practice?
In addition to her law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, Lefton holds a Master of Legal and Forensic Psychology degree from the University of California, Irvine. Her graduate work focused on mental and legal capacity and undue influence, issues that often arise in disputes over inheritances, control of family wealth, and the protection of vulnerable adults.
Lefton is active in elder advocacy and has served on the Financial Abuse Specialist Team through the Council on Aging Southern California since 2012. She previously served as a founding board member of Ageless Alliance and a board member of AgeWell Senior Services.
