What is a Personal Representative?

An overarching term for a person who is responsible for administering an estate, encompassing the role of executors, administrators, and trustees.

An individual appointed by the court to oversee the administration of a decedent’s estate, often synonymous with the terms executor (when named in a will) or administrator (when appointed in intestacy cases). The personal representative has a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of the estate and its beneficiaries, managing assets, paying debts, and ensuring compliance with legal obligations throughout the probate process.
