Litigation Paralegal Responsibilities The Litigation Paralegals at RMO partner with the firm’s attorneys with preparing court filings, discovery, subpoenas, document productions, witnesses, and providing trial support. Candidates should be proficient in the substantive areas of probate and civil procedure applicable to the firm’s practice areas, possess exceptional organizational and technical skills, and maintain all requirements for being a billing member of the firm. Paralegals report directly to their Managing Attorney.
Specific duties in collaboration with the team’s attorneys include, but are not limited to:
- Draft court filings
- Draft discovery requests and responses
- Draft subpoenas to third parties
- Gather and organize client documents
- Prepare and organize document productions (both outgoing and incoming)
- Create indices of client, other party, and third-party documents
- Prepare case timelines
- Prepare exhibits for use at depositions
- Prepare trial documents, exhibits, and other related materials
- Provide trial support to attorneys
- Research rules of legal procedure and substantive law, including cite checking, Shepardizing, and Bluebooking
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Preferred Skills, and Experience
- Minimum 5 years as a paralegal with experience in probate, trusts, and estates. Litigation experience is a plus.
- Strong, team-oriented work habits and ethics
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and time effectively
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills; deadline and detail-oriented
- Ability to analyze legal documents for accuracy and completeness; strong proofreader
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and other legal/office software such as Smokeball®, Adobe, etc.
