Position Summary
RMO LLP is seeking a Business Development Manager to serve as a partner to firm leadership with a focus on expanding the firm’s market presence, referral network, and thought leadership footprint.
This is not a generalist marketing role. This position is responsible for driving and executing high-value business development initiatives, specifically speaking opportunities, strategic events, referral relationship activation, and directory/awards positioning, while supporting attorneys and the Director of Marketing in achieving measurable growth outcomes.
The ideal candidate is a proactive operator who can independently identify opportunities, manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously, and execute with precision in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment.

Not a general marketing coordinator or a passive support role waiting for direction

Core Responsibilities
1. Speaking & Thought Leadership Execution
- Identify, secure, and coordinate speaking and authorship opportunities aligned with firm growth strategy
- Manage end-to-end submission processes, including program description, learning objectives, outlines, and materials
- Coordinate presentation development (slides, outlines, supporting materials)
- Ensure opportunities align with target audiences (estate planners, fiduciaries, UHNW advisors)
2. Event Strategy Execution & ROI Management
- Support planning and execution of conferences, sponsorships, and client-facing and other firm hosted events
- Develop and implement pre-event targeting strategies and post-event follow-up plans
- Coordinate event-related collateral (invitations, materials, follow-ups)
- Track and report on event outcomes, including meetings, relationships initiated, and opportunities generated
3. Referral Relationship Activation
- Support attorneys and leadership in identifying and engaging high-value referral sources
- Coordinate follow-ups, introductions, and relationship-building initiatives
- Track relationship development activity and ensure consistent pipeline visibility
4. Directory & Awards Management
- Own end-to-end execution of directory and award submissions (e.g., Chambers, Super Lawyers, etc.)
- Coordinate with attorneys to gather content, matter summaries, and supporting materials
- Ensure submissions are strategic, accurate, and completed on time
- Track outcomes and identify opportunities to improve positioning year-over-year
5. Targeted, High-Impact Marketing Coordination
- Coordinate materials directly tied to business development outcomes, including:
- Event collateral and follow-ups
- Speaking materials and submissions
- Presentation drafting
- Video coordination (as tied to BD initiatives)
- Collaborate with marketing team members or vendors for broader execution (social, website, newsletters, etc.)

Success in this role is measured by:
- Speaking & Authorship Placements: Volume and quality of opportunities secured
- Event Outcomes: Measurable results from events (meetings, relationships, matters)
- Relationship Activation: New and re-engaged referral relationships
- Directories & Awards: Submission quality, timeliness, and recognition achieved
- Pipeline Visibility: Accuracy and consistency of BD activity tracking and reporting
Skills & Qualifications
- Proven ability to independently manage and execute multiple business development initiatives
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage numerous concurrent deadlines
- Experience coordinating events, speaking engagements, and professional services marketing initiatives
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail in work product and external-facing materials
- Ability to work directly, effectively with senior legal professionals
- Experience tracking and reporting performance metrics and recommending adjustments
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3+ years of experience in business development, marketing, or growth roles
- Strong preference for law firm experience; professional services experience considered
- Exceptional candidates from other industries will be considered if they can present demonstrated high-level of consistent execution capability
